Cake 57- St. Anthony's Medical Center

Found September 21, 2014

Another lucky find for me!  I had a doctor's appointment in this outer suburb of St. Louis and was pleased to discover that I could check another cake off my list in the process!

St. Anthony's Medical Center is the third largest medical center in Greater St. Louis.  Their faith-based, Catholic service to the area began in 1873.  St. Anthony's continued to grow throughout the years and was noted especially for their service during the Flu Epidemic of 1920, it's Surgical Dressing Unit that helped during WWII, St. Louis' polio epidemic of 1946, and Cobalt Cancer Treatment in 1957, along with detoxification of alcoholics.

In 1975, St. Anthony's opened at it's current location, and is the only hospital located in South Saint Louis County.  In 1976, the began the work of pioneering paramedic service, and in 1977, they began in-patient and out-patient services for psychiatric illnesses. In the 1990's and beyond, St. Anthony's has continued to expand it's buildings and services to provide the best services for those in south St. Louis County.
