Clinton County was organized in 1824 and named after New York's seventh mayor, DeWitt Clinton, who helped build the Erie canal. Clinton County is also home to the largest man-made reservoir in Illinois, Carlyle Lake. This is reflected on the cake with the design of many sailboats.
