The Feasting Fox was opened as "Busch's Inn" or "Gretchen's Inn" in 1914 by August A. Busch. He hoped to show that beer could be served by a respectable family establishment during a time of a strong prohibition movement. Anheuser Busch operated both this restaurant and Bevo Mill during a rough time of prohibition. With the repel of prohibition, breweries were not allowed to run a restaurant, so from the 1930's -1961, Al Smith ran the restaurant. Fred and Evelyn Krumm ran the business from 1945 to 1968. Then the building sat vacant until 1993. In 1993, Anheuser Busch prepared to sell the property to a fast food chain, but residents of the neighborhood rallied together to have the old restaurant save. In 1993, Sue and Martin Luepker rehabbed the restaurant and is once again a favorite St. Louis restaurant.
