In 1894, Edward Maritz started the E. Maritz Jewelry Manufacturing Company. However, when the stock market crashed in 1929, jewelry sales decreased. The family was forced to sell their merchandise to companies as sales rewards, and the birth of incentive programs began. Since the Great Depression, Maritz has served as a sales and marketing services company. They have branched out and created new businesses. They moved to their current location in Fenton in 1968. They continue to be family owned and employ 2000 people in the St. Louis area alone.
