Cake 118-Grand Avenue Water Tower

Found November 1, 2014

Located along a very busy street, and no easy way to stand in front of the cake, I had to take this photo from a distance to avoid getting run over.

The Grand Avenue Water Tower is the oldest extant water tower in St. Louis.  It was used for firefighting and regulating water pressure in the area.  The tower was built in 1871.  It was decommissioned in 1912, and its standpipe and spiral staircase were removed at that time.  In 1998, the water tower was restored.
