Today we headed to the Northeast corner of St. Louis in search of cakes. Our first was at Annie Malone located in The Ville. According to the Cakeway website, Annie Malone Children and Family Service Center is the oldest African-American facility in the city that cares for disadvantaged youth and families. The center began in 1888 as St. Louis Colored Orphans Home. In 1919, Annie Malone accepted presidency of the home until 1943. Today the agency still serves as one of the most well respected social service agencies in St. Louis.
