This area was established in 1816 as the Village of North St. Louis. It was annexed into the City of St. Louis in 1841, but what once grew to a vibrant neighborhood as declined and deteriorated over the past five decades. In 1981, a group of residents, small business owners, and community leaders established the Old North St. Louis Restoration Group with the hopes to restore and develop the community once again. For the first ten years, they worked to restore each others homes. By 2004, the neighborhood was recognized by St. Louis magazine as one of city's best places to live in it's "up-and-coming" category.
